Top video games of summer 2017

If any of the following games catch your eye, why not pop down to your local CEX and see if they have it in stock? Going second hand is a great way to get your hands on some of the best games in the world, without breaking the bank!

The Sexy Butale

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC

Developer: Cavalier Game Studios

Indie games are again benefitting from a surge in popularity, and this offering from Cavalier Game Studios is a great example of indie at its best. Set in a large (albeit slightly creepy) mansion, the player is stuck in an ongoing 24 hour time loop. During this time, you must solve mysteries and find clues to stop party guests from suffering a grizzly end.

Nioh

Platforms: PS4

Developer: Team Ninja

If you love your fantasy games, you’ll clock hundreds of hours on this fabulous contribution from Team Ninja. It’s a hack and slash essentially, but there are loads of hidden things to discover and places to explore in the game’s fantasy world – that’s if you manage to survive long enough!

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC

Developer: Capcom

This list would not be complete without the latest Resident Evil release. The seventh installment of the series goes back to its roots, and is a game based as much on exploration than action – unlike the last two games. The plot follows a protagonist as he struggles to escape and cure a family of mutated beings – and is a fantastic example of scare-the-pants-off-you silliness that Resident Evil does so well. Just don’t play it on your own in the dark!

Splatoon 2

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Developer: Nintendo

If you’re looking for something fun and addictive, Splatoon 2 will tick all the boxes. This colourful game is a colourful third person shooter, with all the craziness that you can expect from Nintendo. Oh, and did we mention you can turn yourself into a squid? Good times.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Platforms: PS4

Developer: Guerilla Games

If you love games with a large, open world and have a hunger for racking up that kill score – you’ll love Horizon Zero Dawn. Here you’ll get to wander through other-worldly lands, shooting robotic aliens as you complete your mission. This game has some of the most gorgeous scenery graphics we’ve ever seen. In fact, you’d be forgiven for believing you were actually there.
